Huitzitzil is the ancient Aztec word for hummingbird meaning ‘rays of the sun’
I worked from birds that had sadly been collected as ‘Bogota trade skins’ and sold to cabinet ornithologists.
Their concerns were more about status and acquisition rather than scientific research or the survival of the species.
